Bodega Renacer Punto Final Malbec Clasico 2016

Deep ruby red with aromas of black cherry, dark berries and spice. Vanilla and caramel come from the oak ageing along with generous chocolate notes. Soft and rounded with fresh acidity and a long finish.

The fruit for this wine comes from vineyards in La Consulta, Perdriel and Medrano. They have an altitude between 800-1,100m above sea level and a range of soils from poor to richer and more fertile. The vines have an average age of over 50 years and yields are, on average, less than eight tonnes per hectare. Harvest is always done by hand.

The lack of spring rains and the absence of extensive frosts allowed a very good blooming of the vines, while hail damages – a constant threat for high altitude vineyards – were negligible. The growing season was uneven, starting with high temperatures and becoming cooler later on. The heat came back before the beginning of the harvest, but then a cold wave hit Mendoza at the middle of March, resulting in a slow maturation.

A cold pre-fermentation maceration took place for five days at a temperature of 8ºC. Fermentation took place with native yeasts over a period of 12 days in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 27-29ºC. Malolactic fermentation then took place in stainless steel tanks before ageing for a couple of months in French oak to add complexity while maintaining the fruit.
