Bodega Renacer Punto Final Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Ruby red with purple shades. Morello cherry and ripe plum aromas are complemented with hints of black pepper, cassis and subtle vanilla. Full of stone fruit, the wine also has a spiciness from the addition of Cabernet Franc. Persistent and tannic with soft, elegant oak, good acidity and a long finish.

The fruit for this wine comes from two selected parcels from the ‘Renacer‘ vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo. It has an altitude of 980m above sea level and a range of soils from poor to richer and more fertile. Yields are, on average, less than eight tonnes per hectare. Harvest is always done by hand.

The lack of spring rains and the absence of extensive frosts allowed a very good blooming of the vines, while hail damages – a constant threat for high altitude vineyards – were negligible. The growing season was uneven, starting with high temperatures and becoming cooler later on. The heat came back before the beginning of the harvest, but then a cold wave hit Mendoza at the middle of March, resulting in a slow maturation.

A cold pre-fermentation maceration took place for five days at a temperature of 8ºC. Fermentation took place with native yeasts over a period of seven days in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 24-25ºC. Malolactic fermentation then took place in stainless steel tanks before ageing for eight months in French oak to add complexity while maintaining the fruit.
