Calbuco Cabernet Merlot 2015

A very dark, almost purple wine in the glass with aromas of black fruits. Soft and juicy with cassis, plum and blueberry flavours. Medium-bodied and fresh with a lasting, fruit driven finish.

The vineyards are located in Chile`s Central Valley, the strip of land between the Pacific and the Andes which is the traditional heartland of Chilean vinegrowing. Soils here are very mixed with clay as well as a patchwork of loam, limestone and sand.

A rainy winter at the start of the 2014/2015 season helped to accumulate enough water for the entire growing season. January was very cloudy, but February was partially clear and a bit warmer than usual, which allowed harvest to begin at the end of the month with good, crisp, and aromatic skins with the correct sugar and acidity levels. The fruit showed good quality and concentration.

The must was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness and maximise the juicy fruit character of the grapes. Maceration lasted about 15 days. The wine remained in tank until bottling.
