Cantina Mesa Primo Scuro Cannonau di Sardegna 2014

£11.99

 TASTING NOTE

A luminous ruby red. The nose is intensely vinous, typical of Cannonau, with aromas of ripe wild fruit and berries and delicate notes of violets. The palate is warm, full bodied and well-rounded thanks to soft tannins with an almost endless finish.

The estate comprises 70 hectares in the heart of Sulcis Iglesiente. The largest part of the vineyards is located in the Sant`Anna Arresi area, in a valley sheltered from the Maestrale or Mistral (cool winds from the north west) and surrounded by the sea. The Cannonau (Sardinian for ‘Grenache‘) vines are vertically trained, largely in the cordon spur style but also in the alberello (bush) style, depending on local conditions and exposure.

The grapes were picked by hand, de-stemmed and crushed. The juice flowed by gravity into fermenters on the level below, where the must underwent maceration and fermentation, for five to seven days at temperatures between 24-26°C. The wine remained on the fine lees for several months in stainless steel tanks followed by two months in bottle before release.
