Da Vinci Brunello di Montalcino 2011

Clear, purple red in colour. The nose is filled with intense blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry perfumes. Rich and full-bodied, the wine has soft fruity nuances on the palate, complex spice characters and a well balanced, fresh acidity characteristic of Sangiovese.

The grapes are sourced from around the small hillside town of Montalcino, near Siena, where the soil has been formed from centuries of accumulated silt and clay sandstone. Splintered shale, commonly known as marn, is the primary soil component. This deep and permeable soil is good at retaining water, helping the vines to avoid water stress in periods of hot weather.

Maceration and fermentation lasted approximately 15-20 days and was combined with frequent but gentle pumping over. Fermentation occurred in 100% stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 30-32°C to ensure excellent colour and good tannins. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels where it aged for at least two years. After this period of barrel ageing, it spent an additional three years in bottle before release
