Delta Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2015

A wine with great concentration and a classic spectrum of flavour. It has a depth of blackcurrant notes and blackcurrant leaves on the nose with hints of peach and passionfruit. The palate is textural and mouthwatering with passionfruit and mineral flavours. Fresh acidity with underlying green herbal notes adds focus to the wine.

Fruit is sourced predominantly from Dillons Point in the Lower Wairau area. The 25 acre vineyard around Dillons Point area is planted with a more or less north/south orientation, with relatively flat topography. The trellising system used is Vertical Shoot Positioning. Soils are free draining alluvial overlying a sandy subsoil. They have high levels of available minerals, and incredible drainage due to the ancient riverbed lying beneath the soil.

Late 2014 in Marlborough saw cooler than average weather, with frost and hail events not uncommon. Flowering was impacted by the cooler weather in spring and early summer and a lighter fruit set was the result. Yields therefore in 2015 are much reduced. Fortunately, the summer weather was warm and dry with very little rain over the ripening period and grapes were harvested in excellent condition at the beginning of April 2015.

The juice was pressed off immediately to minimise skin contact. After settling, the juice was fermented using selected yeast strains in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures. No oak or malolactic fermentation was used to preserve the pure fruit flavours and freshness.
