Domaine Perraud Saint Veran 2013




Bright golden yellow in colour with melon and citrus fruits on the nose and a smooth, round palate that has all the minerality that comes with classic white Burgundy. The St Véran is an elegant, crisp wine balanced by full body and a long fine finish.

The Saint-Véran is all grown in the Perraud`s own vineyards in the Maçonnais and the commune of Prissé. The distinctive clay and chalk soils give extra power and richness to the otherwise elegant, aromatic palate (the white-chalk pebbles absorb sun during the day and reflect it during the night to extend ripening). The grapes were machine-harvested in the cool of early morning. This ensured a quick turnaround so that the precious melon and citrus character is kept intact, without danger of oxidation.

Wild yeasts were used for the fermentation and the malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place in order to encourage a round, supple feel. The wine rested for six to seven months on its lees and then several months in bottle to encourage complexity before blending and then bottling.
