Donnafugata Mille e una Notte 2010

An intense and inviting bouquet, Mille e una Notte 2010 opens with notes of red fruit (plums and ripe cherries) enriched by fine spicy hints of black pepper and chocolate. The palate is ample, and perfectly reflects the nose, with soft and elegant tannins and a lingering finish.

Mille e Una Notte is made from Nero d`Avola and 10% local red grapes Pericone and Nerello Cappuccio planted in the Contessa Entellina area. The vines are trained using a counter-espalier system and spur pruned, with average density of 5,000 plants per hectare.

The 2010 vintage was rainier and cooler than 2009, and therefore later and less productive. Careful grape selection has given rise to a Mille e una Notte characterised by balance and finesse. The harvest began during the first ten days of September with the Nero d'Avola and Syrah, and concluded towards the end of September with the Petit Verdot.

The must fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with a 12 day maceration on the skins at 26-28°C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in mostly new French oak barriques for 14 months, followed by bottle ageing for a further 12 months.
