Forefront Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Delicious black cherry, currant and bramble aromas swirl with hints of vanilla toast, ground clove and subtle mint. The plush palate opens with flavours of berry compôte and blackcurrant, supported by silky tannins and hints of caramel crème, cinnamon spice and cocoa on the lengthy finish.

Grapes for this wine were sourced from three different and distinctive appellations. The lush mouthfeel and bright characters of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from Lake County elegantly balance the vibrance of Sonoma County Cabernet and the dark berry fruit and deep complexity of the Napa Valley Cabernet and other Bordeaux varietals.

Textbook conditions saw near-ideal spring bud break, steady flowering, even fruit set and a lengthy stretch of warm days with cool and often foggy nights during the long summer months. Late and light rains came only after the grapes had found optimal ripeness with a smooth balance of acids and sugars, bringing exceptional quality into the cellar.

The fruit for this blend was harvested from late September through to early November to allow each varietal to reach its full potential. Grapes were carefully sorted, then sent to temperature controlled tanks for fermentation, with pump-overs performed two to three times daily to fully extract the intense flavours. The finished wine was aged in 50% new French oak for 19 months prior to bottling.
