Grosset Semillon Sauvignon 2014

Substance  and  body  from  the Semillon with thrilling, nervy, nectarine and white flower blossom and tight, coiled and marvellously intense white peach flavours from the Sauvignon Blanc. Pronounced, zippy  acidity  that  is crisp,  clean  and  refreshing  leaving  a  dry,  schisty  aftertaste.  With time, the wine will reveal more mineral characters while still remaining tantalisingly fruit-driven.

The Clare Valley Semillon is from the Grosset Springvale vineyard and the Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc is from a private grower in the central Adelaide Hills. The Semillon vineyard has a yellow/brown, thin-crusted topsoil, over a slatey, silt stone of Mintaro shale. The vineyards are currently in conversion to organic certification.

2014 saw early vintage challenges of extreme heat and rain which resulted in slightly lower than average fruit yields. Despite this, the overall quality achieved this year was outstanding. The vineyard canopies maintained optimum physiological ripeness, resulting in perfect sugar and acid balance in the white varieties. The Polish Hill vineyard was hand-harvested from the 18th to the 2nd of March 2014.

Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel, with neutral yeast at moderate temperatures (15–18°C) and lasted around two weeks. No skin contact took place at all and only the free run juice was used. No fining to modify taste was practiced or necessary due to the hand picking and fruit selection at harvest.
