A touch of sweetness from ripe, dark fruit is accented by a decidedly big impression of cherries and ripe plums. The tannins are nicely soft and inviting. With aromas and flavours like this, the blend is a crowd pleaser, pure and simple.

Rugged, often wild, with never-ending complexity, this unique growing region has long been home to advocates for family focused sustainable viticulture. A relatively mild Mediterranean climate with predictable heating and cooling cycles is overlaid on a mélange of well-drained volcanic and gravelly soils perfect for concentrating vine energy. Rolling hillsides and benchlands offer prime vineyard sites producing flavourful fruit with layers of agreeable acids and balanced tannins.

That 2011 was unusual is an understatement. The growing season was ushered in with consistent rains that fell through the winter months deep into spring and on into June. Cool weather led to a late harvest, welcomed by unexpected autumn rains. While yields were lower, and the resulting wines trend toward lower alcohol and deft tannins, the vintage offered fruit that resulted in wines with admirable structure and balance. Elegant and age-worthy, it is a vintage to remember for both di_x001C_fficulties and ultimate success.

Upon arrival at the winery, fruit for this wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and then underwent 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 12 months in French oak, 25% of which was a year old and the remainder of which was neutral.
