Inspira Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2013

Ruby red in colour. Cassis and blackberry notes on the nose with hints of vanilla and smoky characteristics. Soft, ripe fruit on the palate, integrated with tannins. This wine has good depth, is well balanced and has a nice lingering finish.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from 11 year old vineyards located in Chile‘s Valle Central. The vineyards are planted on granitic, well drained soil, which force the roots of the vine to search deep into the soil for vital nutrients and water resulting in highly concentrated flavours in the fruit. Harvest took place by hand.

The 2013 vintage will be remembered as one of the coolest vintages for Chile in the past decade. A slow, cool, growing season made for elegant, aromatic wines with lower alcohol levels, fresh acidity and light tannins. With cooler temperatures from start to finish, early-ripening varieties, especially Sauvignon Blanc, struggled to reach full maturity. Expert growers were more aggressive with their de-leafing after fruit set, when the berries were about pea-sized, to get light to the clusters early, both to encourage flavour development and to get the fruit acclimatised to more light. A delayed harvest lasted from mid-March to late May.

The grapes were sorted in the vineyard and on arrival at the winery before undergoing a cold maceration of whole grapes which took place over the course of five days. The juice was inoculated with natural yeast and then fermented in stainless steel tanks at 26ºC. The wine was aged in stainless steel for a number of months to ensure the vibrant varietal fruit characteristics remained intact in the final wine.
