Izadi Rioja Blanco 2014

Straw yellow in colour with bright green tones. With succulent citrus and yellow stone fruit on both the nose and the palate, this is fresh wine is well-structured and has a refreshing acidity.

The grapes for the Izadi wines are grown on 178 hectares of vineyard, all of which are either owned or leased on long term contracts, so they have full control over production. Fruit for the Rioja Blanco comes from the Villabuena and Samaniego vineyards. All the vineyards have traditionally trained bush vines, a method which they believe gives better exposure of the grapes, something which in turn leads to riper fruit.

2014 was the thirtieth officially rated vintage in Rioja and was classed as 'good' by the control board. Quantities were higher than the 2013 vintage, and although some red varieties suffered due poor weather in the later part of harvest, the whites were of exceptional quality.

The must was fermented in 100% new French (Bertomieu), fine grain oak casks, where it stayed for three months. Batonnage (lees stirring) took place daily for the first few weeks.
