TASTING NOTE

Attractive pale straw colour with aromas of stone fruits, dried apricot and subtle Asian spice. Medium-bodied with good texture and richness, it has a savoury finish which is well balanced with the fresh acidity. Flavours of nectarine, mandarin and pear linger after the last drop.

Marsanne was sourced from the Marananga region, Roussanne from the Kalimna region and the Viognier from Eden Valley.

The 2015 vintage started with a warmer than usual spring followed by early but even flowering and fruit-set. Frost, particularly in the Northern Barossa, reduced yields, however conditions during fruit ripening were pleasingly mild and dry with rain in mid-January bringing some welcome relief. Picking started early on 6th February for Marsanne. Due to the impact of frost, a much smaller parcel of Roussanne was able to be secured, which matured slightly later and was picked on 19th February. Viognier was sourced from the cooler Eden Valley, picked in mid-March.

Gentle pressings were combined with free run juice and cold settled. Fermentation commenced in stainless steel, but 50% of the blend (some of the Marsanne and all the Viognier) finished fermentation in fine grain French oak, where it was aged for about six months. It was then blended with the remaining Marsanne and Roussanne, which was aged on lees in tank to enhance the structure and texture of the wine. Only 10% of the oak was new.
