Kaiken Malbec Reserve 2015

The Malbec Reserve has an intense ruby red colour. Fruity aromas intermingle with wildflowers and blackberries, accompanied by notes of coffee and chocolate from the oak ageing. The palate is smooth, with well-balanced acidity, round and elegant tannins and a medium-long finish.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from Kaiken‘s Agrelo vineyard, where most of the vines were planted before 1970. Agrelo is at an altitude of 950m and has alluvial soil thanks to the erosion of the Andes, producing ripe, good bodied reds. All grapes are hand harvested into 15 kg boxes.

The grapes were cold soaked for seven days to extract aroma and colour. After that, the grapes were fermented in 12hl concrete tanks for 10 to 12 days and then kept on their skins for 10 to 15 days to give colour and structure. Following fermentation, the blend was put into 225L French Oak barrels for six months, of which 10% were new and the rest second and third fill. The wine was naturally fined and gently filtered before bottling.
