Lyeth L de Lyeth Merlot 2013

The Lyeth Merlot is dark ruby in colour. It features aromas of dried red fruits and herbs that mingle nicely with the earthy notes of the forest floor and hints of wet stone. Medium-bodied, the front to mid palate has fresh summer strawberry flavours while the fine tannins are nicely integrated into the wine, making it approachable upon release.

Sonoma County's proximity to the ocean provides a stable, temperate climate. Selected Merlot grapes are sourced throughout the region with the aim of creating a balanced blend that embodies the true taste of Sonoma. The wine also includes 0.7% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sonoma County experienced fantastic weather throughout the season that was long and provided moderate temperatures for grapes to ripen at the optimal speed. Harvest in 2013 started slightly earlier than previous years in the second week of August, quickly speeding up towards the end of August and throughout September. Both quantity and quality of the grapes were outstanding. 2013 is a vintage of classic, intense fruit aromas, wonderful mid palate richness and balanced tannins.

A portion of the wine was aged in oak for approximately 22 months for added complexity.
