Mas La Mola Priorat Blanco 2013




Bright, clear golden yellow, this wine is intense on the nose with notes of ripe yellow stone fruits, an elegant flint character and a hint of white pepper. On the palate it is full bodied and powerful, with fresh acidity and subtle oak notes. Complex characters range from red citrus fruit and nectarines to a more tropical finish. A slight creamy texture with a long mineral, almost salty aftertaste. Ready to drink now with good ageing potential for the next six to eight years.

The grapes were selected by hand in the vineyard and then again on the sorting table at the winery. The grapes were macerated on their skins for just 24 hours before pressing in an old basket press. Only the first press juice was used for the wine. Fermentation with selected yeasts followed at a temperature of 16°C. Part of the wine was aged in contact with the fine lees in stainless steel tanks for just over four months, while the rest was full barrel-fermented and matured for six months in new French Allier oak barrels. Batonage took place twice a week.

Harvest was by hand with a rigorous selection both in the vineyard and at the winery. The grapes underwent a long, cold maceration period to ensure a progressive extraction and good level of concentration in each varietal. The different varietals were then fermented separately to give the greatest freedom for blending possible. The wine was aged for 15 months in new and second year fine grained, medium toast French Allier oak barrels. Only the best barrels from each year are used for the final blend of Mas la Mola.
