Ponte del Diavolo Sauvignon Blanc 2014

A classic in terms of Friuli Sauvignon Blanc. The perfumes are fresh, with notable finesse and complexity. The nose displays a lovely apricot character and a subtle minerality. It is completed by good acidity on the palate and intense fruitiness, perfectly in balance with the structure of the wine.

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this wine are grown in vineyards in Grave del Friuli in the southern part of Friuli.  The vines are grown on alluvial plains with stony soils.

2014 was one of the trickiest vintages seen since 1984. It was a mild and wet winter, so pests and pathogens flourished. This led to lots of disease pressure in the vineyards, especially as it was a wet summer. In general, the whites showed a higher acidity than seen in recent years so needed a bit more time on their lees to fatten out.

The grapes were picked first thing in the morning and were immediately chilled to maintain freshness. After crushing, the must was chilled to 8-10°C and pressed gently for 12 hours. Minimal skin contact and temperature controlled fermentation using selected yeasts took place in stainless steel tanks at 16°C. No carbon fining was used and the Sauvignon Blanc was sealed under Stelvin to maximise freshness and eliminate cork taint.
