 TASTING NOTE

Deep red with violet reflections. A complex and intense bouquet offers red cherries, raspberries and cranberries with notes of spice and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is dry and has firm yet smooth tannins.

The Vesevo vineyards are situated at between 450 and 550 metres above sea level and benefit from the cool breeze blowing off the Bay of Naples. Over the centuries, this breeze has blown volcanic ash from Vesuvius inland to give the soil here a poor, volcanic character. Indeed, the name Vesevo is the old name for Vesuvius.

The quality of the 2011 wines was excellent, the best for many years, but volumes were down by at least 30% across the harvest and for some grapes, 50% of the crop was lost. In addition, the highly concentrated grapes yielded 10% less than usual.

After destemming and crushing, maceration took place for 10-15 days at a temperature of up to 26°C. Fermentation followed and then 10% of the wine was aged in American oak barriques and the rest in temperature controlled stainless steel for eight months.
